I'm Cory Murray - a systems engineer, musician, and serial tinkerer and FAFO'er based in Lafayette, Louisiana.
By day, I build things in the cloud. I've spent the last few years deep in AWS stacks - Bedrock, OpenSearch, Neptune, the whole shebang - working on AI/ML projects. I've got a background that bounces between full-stack dev, DevOps, and cloud infrastructure across AWS, Azure, and GCP. I like solving problems at the intersection of all things tech and internet.
Before any of that, though, I was a musician. I have a Master's in Jazz Studies from the University of Northern Colorado and spent a good chunk of my life playing trumpet. Working in music taught me a lot about how to work with others and how to build something from an idea. I recognize a gap in the industry around these skills, and I work to make every environment I work in a collaborative one based on consensus and expertise, standards that ring universal to many practices.
What I'm Working On
Most of my free time goes into a handful of projects that annoy my wife:
- Dorothy - A news aggregation and synthesis pipeline. It clusters stories, runs them through LLM-powered synthesis and bias detection, and even generates a podcast. It's my attempt at making sense of the firehose that is mainstream media.
- Bitchin' Betty - A local voice assistant with wake word detection, tool calling, iMessage integration, and text-to-speech, all on local inference. I have an affinity for combat aviation, if you couldn't tell.
- Ambient Mind - Continuous ambient audio capture with transcription, speaker diarization, and synthesis into structured notes. Think of it as a second brain that actually listens.
- PAM (Persistent Activities Monitor) - An automation platform for orchestrating Claude Code sessions. I built something to "run errands" for me, now it's my 2nd pair of hands.
All of this runs on a Mac Studio M1 Ultra with 128GB unified memory, using Ollama and LM Studio for local inference.
Outside of Code
I cook, bake and racquet sport. I also do a ton of local theatre and variety shows with my wife to keep my creative side on its toes. I also work on offroad vehicles for fun and am mid-rebuild of a '03 TJ with the Chrysler inline 6.
